In presenting the new program pro-gram to the Board of Educa tion members, C. Robert Sundwall. Superintendent, explained ex-plained it as a service which . would be correlated with the regular classroom program providing a personalized program pro-gram for the students with handicaps prescriptive to their learning ability. A part of the new program will be recognizing the uniqueness and worth of each individual regardless of the nature or severity of the handicap. It is based upon assessment information in-formation of the total person, his abilities and disabilities, his level of functioning, and his needs and wants. Both informal and formal diagnostic instruments wiil be used to give information and direction to each child's .emotional, social, perceptual creative ability, values, physical phys-ical development, and academic aca-demic achievement. There will be developed for each child a program utilizing techniques and materials ma-terials that supplement, correlate cor-relate with, and whenever advisable, deviate from the regular program. The program pro-gram will provide each individual indi-vidual child an opportunity to grow in emotional, social, intellectual, and physical domain do-main as well as in the development devel-opment of perceptual motor skills, creative ability and positive values. It will also afford each child the oppor tunity to be actively involved involv-ed in setting goals and making mak-ing decisions about his edu-cational edu-cational program. Because of the clinical and therapeutic capabilities available, av-ailable, the new Resource Center currently being constructed con-structed on the corner of First North and Second East streets, the new program will evolve from this facdity. The center will provide diagnos- and and prescription, classes and therapy for trainable children and specialized programs pro-grams for disabilities In other "business Monday, the School Board accepted the low bid of First Securily Bank for interest rales on tax anticipation notes needed by the District for the first half of the fiscal year prior to the receipt of tax monies. First Security bid 3.19 per cent on the notes which may total as much as &45O O00.; The Board deferred starting start-ing a new educational program pro-gram at Helen M. Tho program was, however, approved ap-proved to begin in 1973-74, and funds for remodeling at the school were left in the new budget so that work can be started as soon as school is out in May of next year. The Board authorized t!iG purchase of a pickup truck, a flatbed dump truck and a tractor with attachments from Marvin Clever for a total of $7,500. The equipment, equip-ment, all used, is currently being used by the ,Districf, and to purchase it would be less expensive than leasing, the board reasoned. The Board authorized the Clerk to pay all , legitimate bills received during the ' month of July, as no formal meeting wiil be held by the Board until August 14. This being the last meeting meet-ing for Sucerintendent C. Rcbert Suncwad prior to his retirement, the Board wished wish-ed him well his retirement. |
