Devils looked poised, ready in big win over Manti Templars Showing continued improvement im-provement and impressive versatility, the Moab Red Devils shut out the Manti Templars 43-0 in a lopsided lop-sided contest last Thursday Thurs-day in Moab. The pace of the first half was set by Moab halfback Robbie Robinson on the first play from scrimmage with a ground-gaining run. On the third down quarterback Greg Larsen connected on a long pass play with end Jim Key for a pick up of 43 yards. Key was hauled down on the three yard line. On the next play Larsen plunged up the middle for the score. The two-point conversion con-version try was no good, putting Moab on the board with a six point lead. Following the kickoff, Manti fumbled on their first play and Moab recovered on the Templars' Tem-plars' 17 yard line. On a second down play, slot-back slot-back Chad Donoghue broke through the Manti defenders for the second touchdown. The two point i conversion attempt was " successful when Don-J oghue was again tapped to carry the ball on a running play. On the next series, Manti moved the ball to the midfield stripe when end Curtis Madsen snared a pass from quarterback Burke Plummer. The Templar drive stalled, leaving Moab with a first down on their own 14. A clipping penalty a-gainst a-gainst the Devils negated a 15 yard gain on a pass to end Brent Richeson, but Moab came back when fullback Dennis Dicker-son, Dicker-son, encumbered by three Templar tacklers, forced his way to a first down on the Manti 48. Moab continued to march down-field down-field with a 15 yard Larsen to Donoghue pass which placed the ball on the 34 yard line and gave the Devils a first down as the quarter ended. An interference call against Manti put the Devils in scoring position with a first down on the six yard line. Robinson capped the drive with a short yardage score on a handoff from Larsen. The point after attempt failed, leaving Moab with a 20-0 lead. Drives by both teams in the second quarter failed, as the ball was shuttled back and forth. However, Larsen, demonstrating excellent ball handling, broke free and ran the ball in from the Manti 45 yard line and followed it with a point after pass to Richeson. Riche-son. The half ended with Moab ahead 28-0. Neither team put together to-gether a scoring drive in the early part of the third quarter until Donoghue again pulled in a Larsen pass on a first down play from the Templar 32. Donoghue was dragged down on the 4, but put the ball over on the next play for a touchdown. Kevin Peterson booted the ball through the uprights, extending ex-tending the Devils' lead to 35 points. On the next series of plays, end LaWaun Cunningham Cun-ningham intercepted a high, looping Manti pass, blunting a Templar attack as Moab Coach Glen Richeson put several reserves re-serves into the game. The third quarter ended Moab 35, Manti 0. The pace of the game slowed in the fourth quarter with no significant yardage gained by Manti or Moab, until Moab end Bill Dickerson snatched up a fumbled Templar handoff and ran in for a score from the 32 yard line.
