Show Moabifes Enjoy Holiday Festivities The first big weekend of the Christmas in Moab Promotion was termed a great success by committee com-mittee chairman Dixie Barker, Tuesday. Mrs. Barker reported that more than 1 ,000 children talked with Santa Clans at the Grand County Courthouse follow ing the parade held Saturday afternoon. There were some 300 youngsters in attendance at a free movie held at Star Hall between 4 and 6 p.m. A number of entries were noted in the parade and w inners were picked in three categories. In the commercial entries the "Little Toy Train" entered by Royce's Electronics won first prize with second place going to Kl'RA Radio's Talking Christmas Tree. Each of these w inners in-ners will be presented with an award for their entry. In the all childrens entries, Santa and his reindeer headed by Tom Taylor and Clive Gary captured first prize. The Girl Scouts received second and honorable mention went to the. Junior Jun-ior Riding Club. In the churches category, cate-gory, the First Assem-i Assem-i v- of God Church was iictmcd as first ; '.ace, winner with the Community Com-munity Baptist and Episcopal Epis-copal Churches tieing for second. Prizes for the parade will be awarded on Dec. 23. Activities planned for this weekend include a program for youngsters to be held at Star Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. This will be a special performance per-formance of the Grand County High School drama department's "Charlie Brown's Christmas." The show will be free. Santa Claus will be in the downtown area Friday Fri-day night to greet youngsters young-sters and stores will remain re-main open until 8 p.m. On Saturday morning Santa will be at Miller's Shopping Center and Saturday Sat-urday afternoon, he will be at Valley Shopping Center. Saturday evening, even-ing, Mr. Claus will again be in the downtown area. Stores will begin staying stay-ing open late on Friday night and will be open throughout the entire week before Christmas until 8 p.m. It is anticU pated that some stores will remain open this Sunday and most will be open part of a day on Christmas Evo. The Talking Christmas Tree entered by KURA Radio won second place in the commercial division of the Christmas parade as it greeted youngsters along the parade route. The float will also be used during other portions of the annual Christmas celebration here in Moab. |
