This calf, with both ears chewed off and deep wout; over mo.si of its body, was attacked by two dogs, and died that night. The dej involved wt-rt' shot and killed by BLM officers. Livestock Killed by Roaming Dogs ( Some domestic dogs can become virions killers of livestock, live-stock, and one of at least five such incidents this winter incurred in Spanish Valley on .Ian. 27. That day the Bureau of Land Management was notified noti-fied that an attack by dogs on livestock was taking place in upper Spanish Valley. The livestock owners had been notified shortly before and were en route to the scene. According to Jim Randall, P.I.M natural resource specialist, special-ist, a BLM employee was sent to the area to offer assistance and report on the attack. On arrival he located the cow and calf which were attacked. The calf was missing ears and tail, had deep wounds covering most of its body, and was completely covered with blood. The cow. trying to protect her calf, had also received various wounds. Both animals appeared to be in a state of shock, and the calf died that night. One dog was shot on the spot, lhe other managed J get away but was followed; a camp trailer located aboc mile to the south. This a J was also shot and killed. This was the second b. dent of dogs attacking h stock or wildlife on pu;j L lands within two weeks.
