They are rough trails some providing excellent family fa-mily jeeping, others so nerve wracking because of narrow ledges and chasms that only the brave should attempt them. It was due to the uranium rush of the 50's that many trails were opened more trails than can be found near any other community in the nation or the world. Moab can easily lay claim to the title, "Jeeping Capital of America." These trails lead to scenes that are quite unlike any found in other regions. Some of them lead into the high LaSal Mountains where can be found scenery similar to Montana's or any other western wes-tern state. Most of the trails, however, how-ever, crest out on sharp sandstone ridges or follow gorge botoms into box car.; yons. Arches are found in almost every corner of Canyon Can-yon Country along these trails. Commercial tour guides have the vehicles needed to visit the wonderlands of the red rock country. Or visitors are free to trace them out by themselves. A few of the interesting trails might be mentioned. The Behind the Rocks trip has been a delight to Jeep Safari visitors for three ' years now. Massive Pritchett Arch is a major feature along al-ong this trail. The road to Hurrah Pass is another re- warding trip. Poison Spider Mesa was just opened one year ago by a rough trail rising from the Dinosaur Tracks on the Potash Highway. High-way. The wilderness is largely larg-ely virgin, even now, and contains several arches and outstanding overlooks. Can-yonlands Can-yonlands National Park is thick with jeep trails and it would take a whole book just to describe the wonders in that area alone. Happy jeeping jeep-ing to you. |
