Show Open House Will Introduce New Fine Arts Guild to the Public An Open House will be held this Saturday at the Originals to introduce the new Southeastern Utah Fine Arts Guild to the public and offer charter char-ter memberships. Doors will be open from 4 to 10 p.m., with continual light entertainment entertain-ment and refreshments. Members of the newly-formed newly-formed Board of Trustees Trus-tees will be on hand to greet visitors and explain ex-plain the purpose and workings of the Guild. A brochure will also be available with information informa-tion about the plans and working structure of the organization. Need was seen in Moab to offer an outlet for the products of local artists and craftsmen by Jean Johnson, who established the Originals for that purpose. When the idea was developed to form an active and viable guild to promote both the creative crea-tive and the performing arts, Mrs. Johnson and her husband, Harold, owners of the building, offered to turn the building build-ing and management over to such a group for a token percentage of sales, just enough to pay annual taxes and insurance insur-ance on the building. Attorney Bill Benge offered to help the organizers or-ganizers with the legal aspects of forming a nonprofit non-profit corporation, and the Sougheastern Utah Fine Arts Guild, Inc., was underway. Purpose of guild is to enhance the state of the arts and meet the cultural cul-tural needs of the area by sponsoring a variety of cultural events, craft fairs, films, concerts, exhibits, plays, classes and any other related culturally oriented ev- The Originals will be maintained as the "store" or - outlet for goods produced by local artisans, and will be the organizational headquarters headqua-rters of the Guild. Profits Pro-fits from the store and from sponsored events will be used to sponsor spon-sor other such activities. activi-ties. Space currently rented to The Galleria will still be occupied by that establishment, with rent from the space and other such space in the building to be used for upkeep and utilities. The only monies not used for events sponsored sponsor-ed by the Guild will be the salaries of the Director, Dir-ector, Nik Hougen, who will direct and coordinate coordi-nate all activities, and . the shop manager. Members of the Board of Trustees, who will hold office until the first meeting of the members of the guild, next May 1, are Rev. Sandy Hampton, Hamp-ton, Joe Miller, Jim Chmeilewski, Marty Benge, Danny Winfield, Bill Groff, Arleen Rug-geri, Rug-geri, Jean Johnson, Penny Pen-ny Lawton, Jean Roberts, Dave May, Adrien Taylor, Tay-lor, Carl Davis, Stacey Lawrence and Dennice Horstmann. These people invite the public of Moab and Southeastern South-eastern Utah to come to the open house and join the Guild. The address is 87 West First North. |
