Show Hnher-Interest Rates i- For Savinas Bonds and Shares CTS. Saving Bonds and Savings Sav-ings Notes popularly known as "Freedom Shares" are now paying higher rates of interest according to Robert A. Dalton, Moab Grand Co. Chairman for the Treasury's Savings Bnjids Program. Effective June 1. 19G3, The interest rate on E and H Bonds was raised from 4.1a percent to 4.25 per cent when held to maturity the full legal limit permitted under present law. Outstanding E and H Bonds also carry a comparable com-parable rate increase to next maturity. The interest rate on Freedom Free-dom Shares was increased from 4.74 per cent to 5 per cent on issues dated June 1 and thereafter. There is no legal authority to improve the yield on Freedom Shares issued is-sued from May 1, 19G7. through May 31, 1968, since they come under a different law. Chairman Dalton reports that the restriction that Freedom Free-dom Shares may be purchased only by individuals enrolled in a ragular purchase plan has been dropped. Effective June 1, Freedom Shares are available from single, over-the counter purchases, in combination combin-ation with an E Bond of the same or larger denomination. In announcing the improve-, ments in Savings Bonds and Freedom Shares, President Johnson said "They offer an opportunity for the citizen to participate in America's gcals and dreams . . The Savings Bonds Program offers a part- nership in which we should all belong." He reported that Utah's April sales of savings bonds and shares were S2.532.89!, topping all other months this year. The state's four-month total of S9.045.351. is sfightly higher than 19G7's record sales for the same period. Grand County's share of the April sales was $2,362, and for the year to date $9,588. |
