Show Community I Comments , Mrs. Betty Farrow's recommendations recom-mendations to the Grand county coun-ty Commission on the future operation of the Grand county t Library, seem to us to make good sense. For the first time in history, Grand county has a library the entire county can be proud of from on appearance standpoint. Tht appearanco of a library, li-brary, however, meant little when considering how good one is, or how professional-, professional-, ly it is operated.. With the right management and proper pro-per books, a wonderful library li-brary could be operated from a barn. We now have an opportunity opportun-ity to proceed in a new library li-brary building with an inter-ior inter-ior program that we can also be proud of. But in so doing, ft we will have to be willing to ' provide' sufficient operational funds to secure the right personnel per-sonnel and stock the shelves , properly. This was a basic - condition reiterated by state " and federal library, officials before the building was begun, be-gun, and it does not seem to us to be unreasonable. ! County Commissioners will apparently consider the subject sub-ject next Monday. We would hope the matter receives the careful consideration it de- ' serves. -SJT- Moab's business leaders and civic boosters have been a little miffed this week over I reports indicating that this community didn't hold up its end of the load during the recent Marathon race. The temptation to react with beligerence is great in this corner, too, but perhaps a calmer approach would be better. . . Critics tend to overlook the fact that the Marathon is operated op-erated by a chartered, incorporated incor-porated board of directors with full responsibility for running the events. By and large they have succeeded ; admirably. There was a time j when volunteer labor carried I the work load, but it became tougher and tougher each year to get help. In recent years, much of the work has been contracted to outside organizations, organi-zations, a move which has worked pretty well but has removed some of the "civic" flavor from the events. Those who would criticize should first of all, review Hie Y makeup of the CCRMA board and analyze their own responsibility in filling the ' board seats. Then if they are . not willing to accept the responsibility re-sponsibility for filling the ' seats with the very best people we can provide, perhaps per-haps Moab should pull out ' two-town event and 0 j ntrate efforts on events I I 1 as the Jeep Safari.. I tb worth doing is worth well. i ( weekend Moab and sur- ' n ag area will host the i ai Canyonlands Rodeo.
