Mite; The western movie "Blue" will definitely be filmed in Moab this summer, filmland film-land officials have confirmed con-firmed after a final inspection in-spection tour of the area this week. Preliminary set construction construc-tion will begin in two weeks; filming activities are scheduled to start by June 26th. Some 200 Hollywood and Brittish film people will move into Moab for the picture - making episode, and an additional 100 or more locals will be hired for location work. Need Many Locals About 40 persons from local sources will be needed need-ed as Mexican or Indian types; 30 or 40 will be interviewed in-terviewed for bit speaking roles. The latter group will be selected from the Moab Community Players and School ' drama groups. Photographs, preferably S x 10's, will be needed with applications. Persons interested in-terested in employment may contact the Moab Employment Em-ployment Security offices. "Blue" will be a back-to back production. Paramount Para-mount Productions of Hoi-lwood Hoi-lwood and an English film ompany will cooperate in the picture making project, pro-ject, completing two separate sep-arate motion pictures from the filming episode. Three Locations Three major location sites in the area have been selected sel-ected by the film officials. A farm community settlement, settle-ment, consisting of several houses and a store, will be fabricated at the Charles ,Redd and Max Wilcox, ranches at La Sal. Moab Chamber of Commerce Com-merce committee member, George White said this site was second choice. The film officials preferred prefer-red the Wilson Mesa area ar-ea on the La Sal mountains, moun-tains, but this site was ruled out after a trip over the rough Sand Flats access ac-cess road. ( A Mexican Village set will be built in Little Valley, Val-ley, 2 miles east of Canyonlands Can-yonlands Airport, and river ri-ver scenes will be filmed in Professor Valley. Various Var-ious other areas near Moab Mo-ab will be used as location sites for scenes in thi? movies. Starring Rples Names of stars in the picture have not been released re-leased by Paramount, with the exception of male lead, Robert Redford, but it has been intimated that several sever-al Hollywood film personalities person-alities who have previously resided in Moab during filming activities will be returning. Rollie Harper, .manager of Hollywood's largest mobile catering unit, has been contacted to sendee the production here. Mr. Harper will be greeted by many Moab friends made during the filming of Rio Conchas in the area a few years ago. Yakima Kanutt and sons Tap and Joe, will supervise super-vise the rough riding and stunt action for the filming film-ing projects. Mr. Kanutt, former world champion cowboy, received national recognition for sendee to the motion picture industry indus-try at the annual Oscar Award ceremonies this year. In Moab this week to make final selection of filming sites were: Jud Bernard, producer; Howard How-ard Roesell, Paramount production manager; and Al Brennar, art director. Also here were Silvio Nar-izzano, Nar-izzano, English film director; dir-ector; and Jerry Ludwick, script writer for the backup back-up staff. |
