Show Poppy Day May May 25 On Saturday May 25 all of us will willbe willbe be asked to wear a little red poppy on our coats or dresses The day will be Poppy Poppy Pop Pop- py Day when once each year year- we of this nation pay tribute by wearing the memorial memorial memorial mem mem- orial flower the poppy to those who gave their lives in Americas America's service during the World Wars The Tho poppies which we will wear on Poppy Day are not of course natural flowers from the battlefields of France and Belgium where the churning tide of war obliterated all touches of beauty except except except ex ex- its brave red blooms They are flowers flowers flowers flow flow- ers which have even greater significance than any nature could produce They have been n made in hospitals and work-rooms work where wars war's suffering Buffering is still going on They have bloomed under the hands of men disabled in war the comrades of those in whose honor they the will be worn Their petals are only paper and their stems wire wire- yet into them has been breathed the th spirit of patriotic sacrifice the spirit of those days when life itself was not too much to give for America The funds derived from the poppy poppy pop pop- py sales constitute the largest source of revenue for the Rehabilitation and Child Welfare work of the American Legion and Auxiliary The dimes quarters and dollars dropped into the contribution boxes on Poppy Day enable the Legion Posts and program of aid to the disabled and to the Auxiliary units to carry out a n constructive d dependent pendent families of veterans throughout through through- out the tho year Poppy Day is the one day when the public is privileged to contribute toward this great work Poppies are being sold in Moab by members of the tho American Legion iary unit No 54 and the junior members The women who distribute the tho poppies unlike the tho disabled veterans who make them receive nothing for their efforts nothing tangible that is only the satisfaction satis satis- action faction of having helped brighten the memory of the dead and of having contributed contributed contributed contri contri- buted to the welfare of the living It is hard unaccustomed work for them them- but they do it gladly happy to be able to serve in such a cause When you are asked to buy a poppy this Saturday do it freely and wear it proudly |
