S i Hayes engineer both of the Board t of f Fire Underwriters of the Pacific conducted a survey of fire defenses In Moab during last week The two men left here Tuesday for their offices In Salt Lake City at the com corn of their survey Among things checked by the two engineers were water supply sup ply fire department structural conditions laws and ordinances fire lire alarm and hazardous con eon They found most of the things checked much Improved I from the last survey some two years ago but still had iad some criticisms On checking the water witter supply sup ply the two men that since the new city water system tem tern has been Installed the flow low from the fire hydrant in front of the Dank building had Increased increased in creased from gallons per minute to 1850 gallons per min mm ute The hydrant directly across the street from that one was running 1950 gallons per minute min mm ute and likewise results were obtained all over town Mr Ross stated that he thought the city should be highly congratulated on the new water system recently re reo installed He lie said that It is so constructed to be able to facilitate highly increased I demands that might be made In Incoming Incoming Incoming coming years without entailing much work He also praised the city council for a ado adopting d o p t tIn I n g a anew anew anew new Fire Hazards Code In recent recent re reo re- re cent months which would ad greatly to tD the fire prevention and control of fire in our city The District Engineer however stated that the business houses of Moab and especially on Main I and Center streets were to be criticized for the condition in which the back yards were wore kept He said that weeds rubbish oil papers and other things oj of that nature greatly encouraged fire In our business section He suggested that steps be taken Immediately to remedy this situation Upon examination of the City F Fire Fre re Fighting the engineers found that the pump on the fire engine badly needed needed need need- ed an overhaul They stated that the machine was not functioning function function- ing as properly as should be expected due to just and sedimentary sedi deposits which have Injured vital parts part of the ma ma- chine Mr Ross Jross also showed some alarm at the number of fuel plants in the city olty limits He stated that In most cities bulk fuel plants of the types of gasoline oil liquid petroleum and so on are usually kept out outside outside out out- side of the city boundaries |
