L Mikesell recently resigned for lor health reasons McKinney came to Moab In July 1942 as Superintendent of Arches national monument In 1944 he transferred from the National Park Service to the Soil Conservation Service Service Ser Ser- vice office In Moab and worked work work- ed there until the end of 1946 He then left Moab to engage engage en- en gage In the building bunding- contractor tor business at Carlsbad N. N M. M for two years worked again for the Soil son Conservation Conservation Conservation Conserva Conserva- tion Service In Steamboat Springs Colo during which time he married Miss Alice Storey of Greeley Colo and was engaged as a real estate broker operating two offices In Prescott Ariz for four years The McKinneys returned to Moab in 1955 when they purchased purchased purchased pur pur- chased a ranch In Castle Valley Valley Valley Val Val- ley which they later sold Since then he has worked for forthe forthe forthe the Moab Garage Co as bull bull- ding Inspector for the Grand school district as a building contractor and together they established and operated the Spanish Valley Nursery until 1961 Mrs McKinney has also worked as secretary fo for the Grand high school and as aJ home economics and physical physical physical cal education teacher there They now live at Spanish Valley but plan to move their mobile home to Cave Springs for the summer McKinney assisted by Mike Valent of Moab Is responsible for lor the patrol pa trot which covers the Needles Chesler Chester Park Squaw Park and adjacent adjacent- areas of the proposed National Na Na- Park as as' well as the overlooks on Hatch Point Headquarters for tor the patrol IF is J located at Cave Spring Mr and Mrs Mikesell came cam cameto cameto to Moab In June 1959 when he retired as a Lt Col fol lowing 23 years of service with the army Included was work with the Infantry Quartermaster and Transportation Transportation Transportation tation Departments with foreign foreign foreign for for- eign service in Alaska Europe Europe Europe Eur Eur- ope and the Far East Since coming to Moab the couple have made their home at ut the M 4 Ranch and he has worked for the Monticello District Bureau of Land Management Management Management Ma- Ma since September 1962 on the pa pa- Just prior to termination of his employment the wore ware honored at a farewell party when 60 persons In Including including In in- BUM personnel and their families met for lor a n steak fry at Kane Springs Roadside park Lee C.
