Show welcome campaign A campaign to rid the Moab area of a boom Splinter Village has hns been started according to an article in a Salt Lake Lake- City newspaper this week Cause of the shanty town to the article article article ar ar- uranium boom was the recent um Announcement of this campaign comes shortly after a plea in this column several weeks ago when we urged the enforcement of zoning and building laws enacted to govern growth in the area on the outskirts of Moab The Salt Lake article po pointed out the laws which required a minimum of square feet of floor space for buildings outside the city and pointed out the duties duties duties du du- du- du ties of the County Building Inspector However it is our understanding that this inspector who constitutes the enforcement enforcement enforcement en- en without without without with with- agency serves not only out formal appointment but with no salary salary salary sal sal- ary as w well We cannot place the blame for this situation entirely upon the uranium boom It has been demonstrated in many communities that this type of situation will spring up outside city limits as a result of people who are attempting to escape city regulations We are not concerned with a problem of cleaning up what the busy years of 1955 1953 brought us We are concerned with a problem that is going to continue until strictly enforced regulations govern building throughout the county There seems to be little doubt that this area will continue to grow for many years what The question remains along lines We pledge our support to an effort to remedy the situation and call upon local government officials to unite in an effort to clean up the valley |
