L J t rt it 1 1 I Hard-earned Hard medals worn by Larry Holds Hollis who became I Moab's first Eagle scout In 18 years The badge of the Eagle Scout was awarded Larry this week making him the first Moab boy to achieve this high honor in 18 years Eighteen years ago Ted Tibbitts Tibbitts Tib- Tib bit bitts ts Grand county high school science instructor and a Scoutmaster Scoutmaster Scoutmaster Scout Scout- master became an Eagle Scout No one else in Moab had accomplished accomplished pushed this feat until now The awarding of the Eagle Scout badge to Larry was made by Mr Tibbitts Larry began his scouting career career career car car- eer at the age of eight as a cub scout In Watertown Massa- Massa and later In Grand Junction Colorado At the age of 12 he became a regular boy boyscout scout joining Troop No 54 In InGrand InGrand InGrand Grand Junction gaining First Class status After moving to Moab he moved upward achIeving achieving ach ach- ieving leving Star and Life badges before before be be- fore his Eagle award He Ife has a total of 24 merit badges of which 21 were required ed to become an Eagle Scout These badges include first aid wood carving safety cycling public health cooking reading soil and water conservation camping marksmanship life savIng saving saying sav say ing swimming bugling personal fitness citizenship in the community community com corn citizenship In the home citizenship In the nation fishing nature music home repairs fireman fireman fireman fire fire- man ship bird study and hiking Ills His scouting activities have al also also al al- so included staff membership at Camp Maple Dell during last August Larry Joined the ranks of Explorer Explorer Ex Ex- Ex- Ex plover Scouts In November 1957 He lie is now serving as junior assistant assistant as as- scout master In Troop No which Is sponsored by Uranium Reduction company Ii Ha He has earned the Silver award which Is the highest rank of the Explorers |
