Show Gone But aut Not Forgotten We pause this week to pay our respects to Southeastern Utah's most respected citizen Dr J J. J W. W Williams Thousands who have known him were saddened by the news of ot his death Monday The Doctor was known to all as one of the greatest backers of this area and was responsible for recognition of the scenic areas around Moab by the Federal The Father of the Arches has been the story of of of Moab Moab and Grand county down through the years He has pioneered many businesses businesses busi bust nesses that are well established In Moab His Ills work in civic organizations has served as u an example to those wh who have followed him Born in a little cabin in Pike County Missouri on August 3 1853 Dr Williams Williams' did not come West until he was twenty He stayed a few years In Colorado during which time h he started and ran a Drug store In 1892 he entered Gross Medical college in Denver and after three years received his degree as an M. M D D. D In 1895 Dr Williams met Kansas where he was practicing prat medicine J. J N N. Corbin of Moab the founder of the Times Inde pendent After hearing CorbIns CorbIn's description of Moab the Doctor r joined joined join join- ed him willingly on his return trip So In 1896 Dr Williams began his crusade to put this area on the map His love tor for the area and its people was evident in all the labors he put Into the tho pioneer development pm nt work Dr Williams will be sorely missed by all his friends in Moab But Dut his active life devoted to his fits family and to his home ome can cam serve as asan asan asan an example to many who will hear of ot his Ms work for or many years to come Ome |
