Show Coming Events Cast Their Shadows blazing the the trial tHaI to Moab wIth with adequate adequate housing facilities facil tacit tone is-tone on ot t the ht not if-not the major major major-if jor not most important problem important problem facing the community today This fact was illustrated again last week when E. E McDonald representative of fhe he e United States Postal d department department de- de told local officials that the federal government frowned upon population housed in trailer camps As a result the chances of Moab obtaining badly needed mall mail carrier service to relieve the strain on on the local post office are reduced This isn't meant to serious efforts on the part of the j city 5 council the construction interests and the he sub-dividers sub to provide more more housing in Moab But rather to reemphasize its position at the top of the list or list or at least near the top until top until a solution has been found Obviously there are many factors that Influence the local housing housing housing hous hous- ing situation But from our limited observation the three most important im im- im peem eem t to be basic property valuations ns water and sewage facilities and finance All are characteristically economic and almost entirely dependent upon influences created by y Moab's uranium boom Certainly no DO one ean place a price on n w another othe mans man's property or criticize his choice of investments Y Yet t they most certainly will shape Moab's bl future Be De th that t as it may The fact remains that thata a a mans man's home is his I cattle castle The housing situation is directly responsible for many of today's personnel problems in Moab's business circles It could well be be that many local residents prefer a home on wheels if for no other reason than to be highly mobile should the need arise on short notice I In any event the availability of goods and services is largely dependent upon stability and as Mr McDonald was attempting to illustrate the presence of a large percentage of the city's homes on wheels might or might not reflect individual permanency Consequently any effort made to hasten the day when the the tile old homestead becomes stationary rather than mobile will wm add I tremendously to the community's ability to cope with its general genera I 1 health welfare and safety It takes steady permanently housed house d I families to make a stable community |
