Show CIVIC CLUBS OPPOSE RIVER AUTHORITIES At their meeting at Loa July 28 the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah adopted a resolution strongly opposing the recent report of the presidents president's Water Resources Policy Committee concerning the Colorado river basin The policy committee had recommended mended that congress set up a al separate river basin committee for each of the three major I basins under the direction of an independent chairman appointed ap top pointed by the president and responsible only to him The civic clubs resolution states that this is the old vall valley val l ley y aut authority method to which the civic clubs have always been opposed that it would give the chairman too wide authority over water power pow er ca wildlife and recreation that these powers belong to the people peo pea I IpIe pIe to be used by them through their elected representatives in county state and national government gov that the tion of the Colorado river basin development be Instructed to work closely with our county and state officials and with our congressional delegation The civic clubs also discussed discuss ed plans for tor or a folder In color advertising especially the scenIc scenic seen ic Ie attractions of the county 18 area for tor wide distribution through travel bureaus member mem memo ber bet clubs and other outlets The plans for tor or the folder were approved and a drive for funds will be staged In Ira each of the 18 counties |
