Show I I I I I 1 I EARLY PASSAGE Of Of- GRAZING BIll ASKED Passage of the public lands grazing and lea ag bill as an administration conservation measure will be asked by Representative e Ed Taylor of Colorado Mr Taylor has urged Secretary Ickes to ask President Roosevelt to send a special message to congress for favor I favor favor- favorable able action and it Is reported from Washington Wa-hington that the administration vv ill take this action The measure reintroduced by Rep Taylor in this session would place control of approximately acres of public lands in 11 western esten states under undu the Interior de- de department department s It would authorize the interior department to establish grazing districts The secre- secre secretary tary would be authorized to issue per per- permits permits mits to graze livestock on the lands landsI Included In the districts All money receIved under the act would be deposited in treasury T en ty five per cent would be made avail avail- available able for construction or maintenance of range improvements and an add addi- addi additional 1 25 per cent would be paid to the state In which the grazing districts are located Representative Taylor said passage of the measure is necessary to conserve I the public lands which are being de- de deI depleted depleted I largely by nomadic sheep herds He also sees in the bill protection against dummy homestead filings I which are never proved up and are Ilea Ilea-cd leased to cattle and sheep men by the I filer For the first time said Taylor the agriculture and the interior de- de departments departments are in agreement on thIs question This bill has been buffeted about by congress for years I believe now We have an excellent chance to toI tomake tomake I make It a law This Is a conservation measure and should be considered as such |
