Show UTAH CHILDREN WILL NOT BUY washington STATUE the proposal to have the school children of the state finance the erection of a statue of george washington on the state capitol grounds has been discarded chauncey P chairman of the bicentennial commission announced monday this action followed word from dr C N jensen state superintendent of public instruction that school superintendents throughout the sate did not deem it advisable to ask the school children to contribute to the statue fund the original plan had been for each child to give a 5 cent piece and each teacher donate a quarter this would have raised a sum of about 10 dr jensen explained that in view of the efforts schools are making to stay within decreased budgets and the effort taxpayers are making to met their taxes it be unwise to add even a few cents burden |
