Show contributed by forest service work on the wamer ranger station road Is nearing completion some difficulty was encountered due to rather heavy construction and the work was slowed up considerably on account of equipment repairs it has been necessary to almost completely overhaul the caterpillar tractor the heavy bulldozer equipment attached to the tractor seems to cause extraordinary maintenance however for tha type of construction encountered without this special equipment we could not have hoped to anywhere near complete the project from the funds allotted all men are being relayed every two weeks with the exception of the foreman and tractor operators in addition to the wamer ranger station road funds are available tor use on the pack creek castleton road brumley ridge section since long stretches on this project Is a one track road several turn outs will be provided bad turns eliminated and sections of new road constructed after these changes have been made the entire route from moab to wamer ranger station with the exception of a short stretch across poverty flat to the foot of brumley ridge can be travelled very easily by auto the county commissioners have expressed a willingness to appropriate a small amount to place this section in a fairly passable condition other emergency funds allotted to the forest road work will be distributed over the baker ranger station north creek road at monticello and the johnson creek road above blanding men will be relayed on these projects every two weeks work on the baker ranger station north creek road starts this week supervisor folster and ranger christensen Chrls just completed the survey last weekend week end work on the johnson creek road will be deferred until early spring at which time the tractor equipment will be transferred from moab to that project equipment warehouses funds are available tor the construction of three warehouses for the purpose of housing road equipment on the forest plans are being devised and bids for the material will be awarded in the near future these buildings will be erected at mesa ranger station baker ranger station and at ranger station range improvement ranger christensen Chrls recently completed 3 12 1 2 miles of fence on the indian creek cattle allotment and ranger wagstaff Wag has a crew of men working on the buckeye park fence on the paradox allotment the purpose of these fences Is to facilitate better range management in the way of deferred and rotation grazing lamb sales recently an offer of ac for lambs was made by ernest webber of grand junction colorado to several sheep men at monticello and blanding upon advice from their banking ol 01 they declined the offer mr webber consummated a deal with the indian creek company and beeson and walker for their lambs at ac delivered at cisco none of these cambs iambs were grazed on forest range fair exhibit A forest exhibit will be displayed at the grand county fair october 6 7 and 8 for the past several years the la sal forest has prepared an exhibit for this occasion and each time very favorable comment has been received noxious weeds recently ranger wagstaff Wag started eradication work on a patch of canadian es on the la sal ranger station lawn this plant by all means should be eradicated wherever it be found it is very prolific and equally as hard to eradicate as the morning glory it Is practically impossible to eradicate by grubbing treatment b some chemical such as calcium chlorate Is no doubt the most effective means of eradication |
