Show STOLE ONCE TOO OFTEN LAW OVERTAKES QUARTET the theft of some lumber from a flume of the moab irrigation company in lower moab valley proved the uni doing of four placer miners this week and as a result considerable stolen property has been recovered and the thieves will spend six months in jail it was reported to sheriff J B monday that some lumber had been taken from an irrigation ditch I 1 flume and in making an investigation he found the material in the camp of four placer miners on the colorado river the men who gave their names as fred deeben harry deeben robert sneeden and mergel magan had set up a placer camp on the north side of the river a short distance above the moab bridge in looking over their outfit sheriff found not only the lumber but a considerable quantity of tools gasoline tanks and other paraphernalia with the identifying words denver rio grande railroad stamped on them halt of a butchered calf was also found in the camp and a short distance away the sheriff found the other half of the calf which had been buried sheriff got in touch with sheriff S M bliss of carbon county and special agent E V tucker of the D R G railroad who came to moab tuesday to look over the stolen goods agent tucker identified much of the material as belonging to the railroad which he said had been stolen from a tool house at Green river on june 8 the men were taken to Green river tuesday afternoon where fred deeben and robert sneeden pleaded guilty to larceny before justice jesse powell they were fined each and each was given a six months sentence in the county jail the fines were sus harry deeben and mergel magan who it appeared did not take part in the robbery were released the calf according to sheriff was undoubtedly stolen in the vicinity of moab but the hide could not be found and it Is not known who the animal belonged to |
