Show homesteaders LEAVES OE ABSENCES on march 2 congress enacted a law which permits homestead settlers leaves of absence from their homestead lands in the drought stricken areas in 1929 1930 1931 and 1932 when it was necessary tor the settlers to seek employment elsewhere due to failure of crops regulations covering to issuance nce of leaves of absence to such homesteaders have just been issued by C C moore commissioner of the general land office the law passed by congress reads as follows i that any homestead settler or who during the calendar year 1929 1930 or 1931 found it necessary or during 1932 should find it necessary to leave his homestead to seek employment in order to obtain food and other necessaries of life for himself family or work stock because of i serious drought conditions causing total or partial failure of crops may upon filing with the register of the district proof of such conditions in the form of a corroborated affidavit be excused from residence upon his home stead during all or part of the calenda years 1929 1930 1931 and 1932 and said entries shall not be open to contest or protest because of such absences provided that the time of such actual absence shau not be deducted from the actual residence required by law but an equivalent period shall be added to the statutory life of the entry |
