Show let there be light during the past two months the service rendered at moab by the utah power light company has been terrible to put it plainly and truthfully frequent interruptions fluctuating voltage and the resulting poor service given by electrical appliances and equipment upon which patrons have grown to depend have tried the patience of the people to the breaking point something will have to be done by the utah power light company to remedy existing conditions no blame can be placed eaon on the local employees of the company for the present poor service these men for weeks have worked day and night to improve the service the trouble appears to originate with the large gasoline engine which the company has installed for auxiliary power on account of the protracted drouth there has not been sufficient water in mill creek during the summer to operate the hydro plant consequently it has been necessary to run the gasoline engine continuously for six or eight months with the result that for some time past it has given constant trouble frequent shutdowns shut downs to repair the engine have been necessary it is probable that the system will have to depend on auxiliary power until next spring as there is no likelihood of an increased flow of water in mill creek until then it will therefore be necessary to continue the use of the engine with consequent heavy expense to the company and unsatisfactory service to the patrons the company has constructed a high voltage transmission jine line to sego in grand county A 30 mile extension would bring this line to moab which would enable the company to close down the local plant with its As heavy expense expense and constant trouble the times independent does not know whether the revenues in the moab territory would justify the extension but it is a notorious fact that the cost of operating the gasoline engine far exceeds the receipts of the system with no hope of ever reducing this expense to any material degree in view of this situation it would seem both feasible and sensible for the company to bring the transmission line to moab from thompsons Thomp sons it is not the desire of this newspaper to lambart the utah power light company the local representatives of the company are putting forth untiring and sincere efforts to give better service with the present equipment the company itself has made a heavy investment in the moab territory and has at all times signified ts desire to give the moab people the same brand of service that it renders elsewhere but the fact remains that the present service is intolerable and the patrons of the company have a right to demand be done about it immediately |
