| Show FATAL INJURIES IN FALL DOWN STAIRWAY MOAB SCHOOL PRINCIPAL DIES AS RESULT OF HURTS RECEIVED AT monticello SCHOOL mrs maude A palmer member of the acuity of the monticello high school and formerly principal of the central grade school at moab died at the moab hospital monday evening as the result of injuries she sustained last friday when she tripped on a matting and fell headlong down the basement stairs at the monticello school building death resulted from fracture of the skull aggravated by extreme loss of blood following the accident the death of mrs palmer who for years had taken a very active part in the educational and civic affairs of southeastern utah came as a great shock to her hundreds of friends throughout grand and san juan county the accident occurred shortly after 13 friday mrs palmer had started down the stairway leading to t the school basement it Is believed she caught her toot in a piece of wrinkled matting on the stairs causing her to crash to the basement floor she had probably lain unconscious top some tune but when found by another teacher about ten minutes later she had revived and was attempting to stop the flow of blood pouring from a gash in the back of her bead dr I 1 W alien of moab was immediately called and reached monticello a couple of hours later there was no physician in monticello and by the time dr alien reached mrs palmer she had losic a great amount of blood and was in a weakened condition dr alien dressed her injuries and advised that she be brought to the hospital as he was fearful that she had sustained a skull fracture mrs palmer was brought to moab saturday and stood the trip well her condition remained favorable until sunday night when she lapsed into semi consciousness and did not again rally she passed away about four monday afternoon mrs palmer Is survived by her husband J W palmer for many years clerk and recorder of san juan county and who has spent the past year at jerome ariz for the benefit of his health mr palmer and son both of whom were at jerome were advised of mrs halmers palmers Pal mers serious condition sunday evening and made a forced drive in an attempt to reach moab before she passed away due to muddy roads encountered en route they were delayed and did not reach monticello until three tuesday morning when they were advised that mrs palmer had died mr palmer whose health Is poor and who was suffering from fatigue as a result of the strenuous trip was induced to remain at monticello his coming on to moab and reaching here tuesday morning A sister mrs harry E of denver also arrived here tuesday the body accompanied by the sorrowing children was returned to monticello tuesday afternoon and funeral services were held at that place wednesday in addition to the husband mrs palmer Is survived by four children who are mrs J W corban moab ward palmer monticello mrs claud foy monticello and merritt palmier jerome ariz she Is also survived by her father george R gwynne pheonix ariz and four brothers and one sister who are guy R gwynne of chile south america clarence gwynne of california george R gwynne cleveland ohio hugh H gwynne hollywood calif and mrs harry E of denver mrs palmer was bom nov 11 1875 at mo the daughter of george R and elizabeth ann gwynne the father Is still living and resides at phoenix ariz she was married to john W palmer 32 years ago at kreslins kremlins Krem lins colo and the family resided there for a number of years mr palmer who was in the foest service was transferred to the la sal national forest in utah about twenty years ago and the family moved to monticello with the exception of a few years spent at moab the halmers palmers have resided at monticello since then after coming to utah mrs palmer took up teaching and tor 14 years she was a member of the faculty of the monticello schools she was also prin capal of the central school at moab for four years mrs palmer toofe a leading part n avic affairs as well as educational matters she was juvenile judge of san juan county for many years holding this position at the time of her death she was es pec lally acthen in club work and a year ago waa elected president of the eastern utah district of ted crated clubs a position she also held at the time of her death several years ago mrs palmer was elected by the utah educational as as one of delegates to the national educational association convention at seattle wash i mrs maude A palmer was greatly admired and respected by a wide circle of friends throughout south t eastern utah she was an especially able teacher and in this capacity cn herself to all with whom she came into contact the untimely death of this talented woman Is a keen blow to both grand and san juan counties and this part of the state has indeed lost one of its most valuable citizens the deep sympathy of hundreds of friends goes out to the bereaved husband and children funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the school auditorium at monticello which was crowded to capacity with sorrowing friends wonderful floral offerings from dozens of friends at both monticello and moab attested the genuine
