Show I 1 HOGS AND LAMBS LOWER BEST CATTLE STEADY hansas city stock yards january 13 the better classes of fat steers butcher cattle and st ackers and feeders held fully steady plain to fairly good kinds ruled weak to 25 cents lower there were a good many half fat plain quality steers in the run and they showed most of the decline both the supply and demand for stockers Is holding above expectations hog prices which broke sharply late ast week showed further weakness today and ruled about 60 cents under the high point last week lambs broke 25 to 35 cents from last weeks high close trade was fairly active at the decline receipts receipts today were cattle 2000 calves bogs and sheep compared with cattle 2500 callea hogs and sheep a week ago and cattle 2049 calves bogs and sheep a year ago beet cattle killers and order buyers were anxious for steers that showed good to choice finish while the good kinds were fairly plentiful there wera only i a few that came up to choice and none was prime plain to medium grades predominated ahe run also included a good many cattle from wheat fields several lots of light weight steers and yearnings yearlings year lings at 1350 to 14 were the best offerings here other killing steers sold at 9 to 1325 southwest fed steers brought to 12 with dogle and old medicos at 9 to 1050 medium cows at 7 to 8 were fairly plentiful they were quoted oft 15 to 25 cents good to choice cows were steady heffers heifers ruled weak to 25 cents lower with medium kinds off the most bulls and calves were steady stockers and feeders demand for st ackers and feeders that had quality recommendations was active at firm prices common to fair kinds cold slowly both demand and supply Is unusually large for this season of the years best st ackers cold at 11 to 12 and good to choice feeders 10 75 to 1150 plain to fair kinds sold at 8 50 to stock calves are quotable at to 1250 fl hogs at midpoint mid point last week hog prices were the highest of the winter packing season the market turned down thursday and continued weak in the early trade today but strengthened some before the close prices now are 50 to 60 cents under the high point last week and 10 cents lower than a week ago chicago with hogs reported or 67 per cent of the total supply at the five western markets was the weakest spot the to pound hogs brought to to pound to to pounds 9 to packing bows sows 7 75 to 8 35 and stock hogs and pigs to sheep and lambs lamb prices broke 25 to 35 cents from last weeks high point but the few tat sheep offered were steady wool lambs brought 1250 to 1340 shorn lambs 12 to 1285 yearnings yearlings year lings 1050 to 1125 and ewes 6 to horses and moles trade in horses and mules has increased since the beginning of the year prices are holding firm |
