Show TWO RECEIVE WOUNDS andre gomez pool hall proprietor at thompsons Thomp sons Is being held in the county jail at moab charged with the attempted murder of his wife barbarita gomez he Is also charged with shooting joseph L watts through the hand the latter being in the path of the bullet which it Is charged was intended tor the woman mrs comez was also wounded by the ball after it passed through mr watts hand neither was seriously injured the shooting took place at thomp sons wednesday evening at about 7 30 mr watts and william sampson occupy the front part of a house there while gomez and family were living in the rear rooms mr watts had just gone to his rooms and had walked around to the rear of the house to get some water at a hydrant after getting the water he stood up and saw mrs gomez standing in the back door of the house he spoke to her and just then heard a sound resembling the click of a gun coming from the darkness behind the house he turned halt way around and apparently patently ly threw his hand out immediately he heard the report of a run and saw a flash and discovered that he had been shot in the hand the woman who was standing in the door was struck in the side by the ball inflicting a flesh wound which Is not serious gomez who Is a basque had been drinking heavily all day it Is alleged and had been quarrelling with his wife sheriff J B and deputy A A taylor jr were notified and left at ones tor thompsons Thomp sons gomez was arrested but insisted that he did not do the shooting A careful investigation by sheriff and county attorney C S thomson points strongly to the eulet of the basque it is declared they found the gun which they believe he used they also found two shells in a corral in the rear of the house apparently the man ejected one shell before tiring the shot and it was this sound which mr watts heard which caused him to turn around which act probably saved his life it la the theory of the officers that the basque did not intend to shoot mr watts and that he aimed at the woman who was standing in the lighted doorway blood stains and other evidence found by the officers bear out the story as told by mr watts and the woman gomez was brought to the moab jail and will be held pending his trial |
