Show BEST CATTLE STEADY OTHERS SLOW HOGS AND LAMBS LOWER kansas city stock yards july 29 cattle receipts today were about 2000 larger than a week ago and fully up to normal for this season of the year new demand keeps showing up and while some of the medium grades have a lower tendency the better kinds are steady chicago had a heavy run of fed cattle and reported a weak to lower market hog prices held steady at last weeks close but ruled 40 to 50 cents under a week ago the to pound grades aye bringing a premium over other kinds lambs opened steady but closed 25 to 60 lower sheep were close to steady receipts receipts today nere cattle 2500 calves hogs and sheep compared with cattle 2000 calves hogs and sheep a week ago and cattle 1959 calves hogs and sheep a year ago beef cattle good to prime fed steers and year lings sold at 15 to 1610 some 1098 pound yearnings yearlings year lings brought 1610 and 1168 pound steers 1590 most of the others were 15 75 downward short fed steers brought 13 to 1475 with kansas wintered and texas cake feds downward from 1425 the upper crust of the fed steers were quoted fully steady but the short fed and grass steers were off 25 cents in some cases medium grades down more fed cattle were relatively scarce grass steers were offered freely and while they moved slowly at the decline the volume of sales was larger than a week ago killers took considerable interest in the better grades the extreme price range was to 13 in proportion to total cattle receipts the supply of cows and heffers heifers was small prices held close to steady calves were 50 cents lower with best bringing 13 to 14 stockers and feeders A good many leshy feeders sold early at 13 to 14 or about the same as last week later thin feeders and stockers were quoted oft 25 to 35 cents and this decline took the market irto the low position of the sea cn c n medium to good feeders can be bought at 10 to 11 and stockers to 1125 choice stockers ranged up to 13 hopi the hoe market was about the same as last saturday but 40 to 60 cents under last londay when the 12 cent price disappeared trona the quotations trade was quiet especially on the weighty kinds packers are fairly well satisfied with the present price range and are going to try and hold the market at present levels for the next few weeks today the to pound hogs sold at 1140 to 1160 to pounds 1120 to 1150 to pounds 11 to 1150 lacking bows sows 9 to hogs and pigs 10 to 11 sheep and lambs the lamb market opened steady with a few loads of idaho lambs at 1350 when other markets came sharply lower quotations here were shaded 25 to 50 cents natives sold from 13 down some old texas grass brought other classes of sheep were scarce horsey and males receipts of horses and mules remained small there was a fairly good demand erht 1 |
