Show TWENTY TWO newspapers represented AT ANNUAL GATHERING HELD IN CARBON EMERY AND probably the most successful convention of the utah state press association ever held in the history of that organization during its twelve years of existence was staged in carbon emery and uintah counties on saturday sunday and monday twenty two newspapers were represented in addition to enjoying a number of entertainments given in their honor by several eastern utah cities the editors held a most profitable business session at which matters of vital importance to the publishing business were discussed steps were taken result in closer operation cooperation co between 1 the editors to the end that the papers of utah may enjoy a higher degree ol 01 prosperity which will make for greater service to the state generally and to the communities which they represent the editors gathered at price saturday morning and left in a body for castle dale where they enjoyed a splendid program given in their honor by that progressive little city herbert moffatt mayor of castle dale and county clerk of emery county was in charge of the reception held on the spacious lawn which surrounds the county court house A buffet luncheon was served by the bee hive girls of the town returning to price early saturday fate moon the editors held a business session at the savoy hotel among the important matters transacted was the employment of fred B of salt lake city as field manager of the utah state press mr as also secretary of the graphic arts association an organization of employing printers of salt lake and weber counties he Is an authority on the printing and publishing business and his connection with the country papers of the state will doubtless result in vast benefit to the business at 6 p m the editors were entertained by the arcle chamber of commerce at a banquet william latue ohn president of the chamber was toastmaster master mayor W F olson gave he address ot welcome those who responded to toasts were W P epperson editor of the kaysville Kays ville reflex and member of the state legislature from dails county dr max marcus editor of the richfield reaper and pres dent of the utah state press association 0 K clay county attorney of carbon henry H blood chairman of the state road commission beverly S clendenan Clende former president of the salt lake chamber of commerce and dr C N jensen state sup of public instruction field manager hutchings of the press association cia tion on behalf of the western newspaper union announced that the price news advocate had been adjudged the rutih newspaper having the test makeup make up and best and most modem news methods and the best general appearance the richfield reaper took second place in the contest n which several dozen utah newspapers were entered at the conclusion of the dinner the guests were taken to helper where a dance as given in their honor at the rainbow gardens with the helper of commerce as host on sunday most of the editors made a tour of the uintah basin being en pertained at duchesne myton roosevelt and vernal A trip to the dinosaur quarry near jensen was a feature of the trip the gathering of the newspaper people was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable ever held in the state A spirit of harmony prevailed among the assembled editors which bodes well tor the future of the publishing business m utah the utah state press association has about sixty members half of whom were present L L taylor of the times independent of moab attended the convention |
