Show ON VALLEY CITY BRIDGE PRESTON G PETERSON MEMBER OF STATE ROAD commission SAYS PROJECT WILL BE advertised AT ONCE the editorial published in last weeks times independent wherein this paper criticized the state road commission for its delay in starting operations on the proposed bridge across valley city wash was erroneous in inferring that the bridge project had been tor the year according to preston G peterson member of the road commission who was in moab saturday and sunday while it is true mr peterson said that the klondike ridge gravel project has been postponed tor the year on account of a lack of funds it has never been the intention of the commission to delay construction of the bridge and about a mile of road connecting up the bridge with the moab thompsons highway commissioner peterson while here conferred over the telephone with henry H blood chairman of the commission after which conference he announced that the bridge project would be advertised for bidders at once the bridge will be of the wooden type supported by piling and the main span will be about fifty feet long it will also have two approach spans about a mile of gravel sur faced highway extending on either side of the bridge will also be included in the project mr peterson stated that the commission regretted very much the necessity of postponing the klondike gravel project but until more federal funds are available the project cannot be undertaken he stated that the prospects were very favorable for the enactment by congress of the colton bill which would appropriate 3 annually for three years for the construction st of roads in the eleven western states where there Is a large proportion of forest lands and public domain the fund would be expended on road contraction without the requirement qui rement of state and county coop co op aeration under this measure utah would be apportioned between and annually for three years and this money would be used in its entirety in constructing roads in the sparsely populated counties grand and san juan counties would be greatly benefited by the passage of this appropriation mr peterson stated as the klondike gravel project and other projects in southeastern utah could then be undertaken forthwith |
