Show MOAB FRUIT CROP IS KILLED BY disastrous FREEZE STRIKES VALLEY APRICOTS CHERRIES PEACHES APPLES AND PEARS ARE COMPLETE LOSS for the first time in many years early fruit crop has been completely killed by frost from present indications grapes are the only fruit that escaped damage freezing temperatures were experienced for nearly a week tha coldest temperature being registered sunday night when the thermometer dropped to eighteen degrees this was the coldest april weather recorded at moab foe many years A survey of the valley indicates that all peaches cherries apricots and most of the apples pears and plums have been killed even on the ranches in the upper valley where frost damage Is very rarely experienced the blossoms and buds were blighted by the icy blast grapes had not advanced sufficiently to be damaged by the frost and a heavy crop of this fruit Is expected alfalfa was badly damaged by the frost in some parts of the valley the alfalfa was six inches high and the first cutting of hay will probably be late as the result of the setback caused by the freezing temperatures reports from grand junction are to the effect that the grand valley fruit crop has been seriously damaged temperatures as low as fifteen degrees were experienced at several points there and while the fruit was not as far advanced as at moab the loss was nevertheless heavy the palisade fruit crop will be very light this year if in fact any peaches at all escaped the freeze |
