Show MOAB TO CELEBRATE PIONEER DAY moab will celebrate pioneer day with a fitting program and it is expected that crowds will attend from all the surrounding towns inasmuch as july 24 falls on sunday most of the sports will be held on the following day probably the leading sports feature will be a baseball game between the grand junction team of the western slope league and the sego team of this county the latter team will be augmented by an imported battery and the game should be an exciting event the advent of the original utah pioneers in salt lake valley eighty years ago on july 24 1847 will be at a literary and patriotic program which will be held in the L D S chapel at p m sunday evening july 24 bishop W D hammond will preside and the opening prayer will be given by H W balsley J H johnson one of early pioneers will given an address on pioneer times in utah while C A robertson president of the board of education will talk on the influence of the pioneers of utah on education miss virginia peterson will render a vocal solo and a reading will be given by miss golda larsen several pioneer songs will be rendered during the program by the congregation the program will be held in the cool of the evening and a large crowd is expected on monday there will be a novelty parade headed by the newly organized moab band this will precede the baseball game between grand junction and sego the band will also play during the ball game childrens sports will be given during the af in the evening a big dance will be given in the new goodmen woodmen hall and it is expected will be one of the largest ever held at moab reports from sego thompsons Thomp sons green river la sal monticello and other points state that large delegations dele gatins from those towns will come to moab for the celebration |
