Show MECHANIC ARTS BOYS successful YEAR the school term of 1926 27 was one of the most successful in the history of the mechanic arts department of the local high school according to superintendent D S L mccorkle the boys in this department did a vide variety of work end the school shops turned out a surprising amount of useful articles not only did the boys learn the rudiments of several trades but they actually completed the years work at a handsome financial profit according to a tabulation compiled by the school at the close of the term the mechanic arts department used raw that cost 55 with these materials a wide variety of articles were manufactured which were conservatively valued at 00 showing a profit of 35 chief among the articles manufactured were book cases bridles cupboards cedar chests door frames and doors flower stands flower boxes hat racks hurdles horizontal bars folding ironing boards radio cabinets comer shelves foot stools piano benches tool chests towel racks tables feed troughs belts shop benches lamp stands and wheel barrows articles repaired included harness chairs upholstering furniture shoes half soled and many other things the arts department of the high school was under the supervision of A E tanner during the past term |
