Show unique banquet and party given to employees by moab garage co A party and banquet unique in alie history of moab and southeastern utah was held saturday night when the moab gabage company the largest business institution of this part of the state entertained its employees and their wives and partners there have been many banquets and many entertainments held in moab but this was the first time that one business institution could gather together a crowd from among is own which when seated at the banquet table filled a spacious room to overflowing it is doubtful if there is an organization in the state outside of salt lake ogden and possibly provo with so many people dependent on it for their livelihood the entertainment was a striking illustration of the remarkable growth which the moab garage company has made since 1917 when it was organized seventy one people were present at the party all but two of whom were directly connected with the company ten other people who arc in the em ploy of the company were unable to attend on account of sickness and other causes the beautiful new salesroom of the garage company which had been decorated in holliday holdiday hol diday garb for the occasion was fitted up as the banquet room three long tables ex tending the entire length of the room were required to seat the crowd A sumptuous dinner prepared and served by mrs hattie blevins of the merchants hotel was a feature of the entertainment following the banquet the tables were cleared away and the evening spent in dancing it was one of the most enjoyable affairs given in moab during the holidays R G clark secretary treasurer of the moab garage company was toast master at the banquet and those who responded to toasts were D E baldwin president C E bald win vice president R J fletcher director ross thomson foreman of the shops virgil baldwin in charge of the river transportation E H who operated the first truck line to monticello and L L taylor editor of the times independent aho vho with mrs taylor were the on y persons present not directly connected with the moab garage company mr clark made a talk in which he traced the growth of the company during its ten years of life it was organized late in 1916 he said by himself DE D E and GE baldwin J don taylor and R J ri etcher the first year or two were devoted to cp i 4 crating ford cars a ford truck and a small shop the owners have all along been content to put the earni ing of the concern back into the I 1 business with the result that the ten years of the companas comp anys career have been ten years of continuous im proven vent As soon as the roads were sufficiently improved large trucks were installed for freight transportation and large cars were placed on tahe stage line the company now operates fifteen large trucks and half a dozen cars in its transportation system in addition to a large freight barge and several smaller boats on alie colorado river an interesting fact brought out in mr darks talk was that during 1926 the company hauled pounds of freight the average nun ber of employees on the companas comp anys payroll during the year was 38 and the moab garage paid out in salaries the sum of all of this money was expended locally an illustration of the volume of business transacted was the state mant that during the past year the company paid to tha state the sum of in gasoline taxes this money went ino the coffers of the state road commission to ba used for road maintenance and amounts to more money than was aed in main cenance work on the state roads in grand county during the year the growth the company has achieved mr dark stated was due in large measure to the loyalty of its employees many of whom have been with the company almost from the time of its organization those present at the party were mr and mrs C E baldwin mr and mrs R T edwards mr and mrs david baird and child mr and mrs D E baldwin and children mr and mrs albert maxwell mr and mrs bryan Loven dge mr and mrs frank graham mr and mrs R J rintcher mr and mrs albert beach mr and mrs R C dark mr and mrs dave A johnson mr and mrs J A games mr and mrs H L meeker mrs and mrs C F carter mr and mrs nelden chistensen mr and mis E II 11 steinar ncr mr and mrs dan winbourn mr and mrs L L taylor miss neva dark miss athel dark miss ida fletcher miss bethel watts mis ida larsen wil aorl ivan hawks charles gaines F A hommond jim bridges J II 11 ehrk virgil baldwin bill caldwell I 1 J thomson jr rosa joseph watts jack ciara arthu newell and orris newell |
