Show YET TO drilling up of collapsed casing continues near bottom of hole well should be tested by middle of march the drilling up of collapsed casing in tho bottom of the discovery well of the midwest utah southern on the big six structure has during the past week met with the delays usual in such operations while the drill is only about ten or twelve feet off bottom some difficulty is being encountered in keeping the hole straight so that 8 inch casing can be run to the bottom and it may be several days yet before it will be advisable to run the pipe and cement it in preparations were made monday to run the S inch to the top of the cement plug ten feet off bottom and cement it in there but this plan was decided against when it developed that the hole had a slight bend in it A quantity of scrap iron and rock were dropped in the hole and this is now being drilled up to straighten out the hole work is proceeding favorably and superintendent L L bechtel is hopeful that within two or three days all the complications following the collapsing of the 10 inch will have been overcome frow present indications the next week should witness the running and cementing of the 8 mch after allowing a week for the cement to set the oil sand will then be opened up and the long awaited test of the gusher made well no 2 OIL the shafer structure five miles southwest of the discovery well will be studded in the last of the week the drilling crew is now at the camp and is busy rigging up cordage and making other preparations to start the well two or three davs will be required for this work no 2 will be started as an 18 inch with 16 inch conductor pipe district superintendent beghtel is remaining in the field to assist field superintendent C A and crew in the work of the no 1 discovery well mr bechtel will probably spend most of his time in the moab district hereafter as in addition to the various wells to be drilled on the colorado river structures the midwest exploration company will have charge of the drilling campaign on the elk ridge structure where the first well is to be studded in about may 1 considerable road building and other preparations will be started in the near future on the eckridge elkridge Elk ridge and a crew of surveyors under the direction of chief engineer J B cleary is now in that district |
