Show more rigs arrive for new wells in MORE EN ROUTE new well in moab valley to be studded in this month also one in salt valley work on big six well starts the drilling of fourteste four test wells on structures at or near moab will be started the next two or three weeks by companies these being in addition to the wells being drilled and soon to be drilled by the midwest and affiliated interests two complete standard drilling fits arrived at thompsons Thomp sons during the past week and are now being transported to well locations one of these rigs will be used to sink a well on the moab anticline about two miles east of the city near the moab light power companas comp anys plant this well will be drilled by the utah oil development company of which F C hallar of mancos is president and C C double of denver is field manager the rig and equipment are now being transported to moab and mr double is expected to arrive this week to start the erection of f the derrick the company has a large block of acreage lying along the north side of moab valley and has contracted to drill two holes during the coming year the company closed negotiations for leases following an examination of the moab anticline made by charles T lupton a prominent denver geologist and at one with the U S geological survey on the basis of mr Lu report production should be secured in the Pennsylva mari sands at a depth of less than 2000 feet president hallar of the utah development company states that no time be lost in erecting the rig and studding spud ding in the first test well and operations should be under way before the first of april the other standard rig which reached thompsons Thomp sons this week was consigned to the lewis petroleum company of california of which levi kenduck is field manager four carloads of equipment were included in the shipment and the materials will be moved to salt valley within the next week or two A deep test well will be put down on the salt valley structure an acreage controlled by mr kenduck this aleo will be a pennsylvanian test and production should be encountered at ices than feet salt valley has long been considered a promising structure and operations at the alewis test will be watched with ex interest in addition to the utah development company well in moab valley two more will be in operation here before the end of march john A tannehill field manager of the embar oil corol pany arrived in moab the last of the week and is making preparations to resume drilling at the big six well on the south side of the moab anticline and just west of the colorado river the embar company has taken a contract from the big six to complete this well which is now at a depth of 2850 feet mr tannehill is assembling equipment for the resumption of operations erat ions and expects to be drilling within a couple of weeks the no 28 star machine now standing over the big six well will be used to complete the test but it has been necessary to order considerable new I 1 equipment for it the embar permit in the vicinity of the court aliouse wash bridge will also be drilled at once mr tannehill states A hole will be studded in near the bridge this month the small port bable rig which has been in use at the U S companas comp anys vanadium mill m dry valley for drilling water wells will be used for studding spud ding in the embar test and later a larger machine will be used from now on it is expected that new wells will be started on structures in the moab field at the rate of about one a week reports from salt lake denver and other oil centers are to the effect that numerous rigs are being shipped to thompsons Thomp sons and by the first of june i it Is probable that at least fifty drills will be at work in this district I 1 the year 1926 will be the busiest ever experienced in southeastern utah regardless of the outcome of the midwest utah southern well on the big six or cano creek dome which came in as a phenomenal pusher on december 8 the field is now classified as producing and additional dit ional wells will be drilled as fast as possible to build up sufficient production for a pipe line in addition to the no 1 producer a second well will be studded in by the mid west this week on the shafer dome about five miles southwest sout West of no 1 and a third well will be started as soon as possible about a mile north of no 1 on the big six structure other wells will be angled by the midwest utah southern interests on the colorado river structures just as fast as possible additional drilling on the moab anticline will be under way within the next month or two the empire petroleum company of new york city has contracted with the big SIK oil company to drill a well at a point near the head of moab canyon on the moab thompsons highway the company is now making preparations to get a rig on this location as well as a rig on the shafer permit on the lockhart structure down the nver also taken on drilling contract from the big six companies which have announced drilling campaigns in other southeastern utah structures are union oil of california on the lisbon anticline midwest exploration on the structure texas production on the colorado river bed and several companies which are planning to drill in the bluff field |
