| Show D S R fi W tl although the denver rio grande western improvement program for 1826 now jeanng was most elaborate the budget for 1927 provides for an expenditure of ap proximately and is a con of the policy of building up the property to the highest stand ard the work of ballasting with slag and gravel which was so extensively earned on in 1926 will be pushed to completion in 1927 and the entire main line from denver to ogden will then be fully ballested ballasted bal lasted except in short stretches aggregating about eighteen miles where important line changes are to be made in 1928 with this work completed and the elimination of sharp curvature which is a part of the program and well un der way the denver rio grande western railroad will have a track of A standard comparable with that of any other transcontinental line substitution of heavy rails for lighter is progressing and miles of new 90 and pound rail rolled by the colorado fuel iron company pueblo will be laid between denver and salt lake city the released rail will be used to replace that of lighter weight in branch lines yard tracks and side tracks entire program for 1927 will therefore include the laying of approximately miles of heavier ran pile bridges of which only a few are left on roam lines will be replaced by permanent bridges of concrete and steel the installation of addi dional and permanent water ways foi improving drainage conditions is one of the features having special atten tion and this will contribute materially to lessening interruptions to traffic in conjunction with the federal aid highway improvement substantial sums will be expended for the allm of one of the improvements ing the movement of traffic will be an extension of the present double track system on the west side of tennessee pass when this work is completed there will be continuous double track from the summit of tennessee pass to the foot of the heavy grade on the west side of the continental divide double track now extends over the wasatch range at soldier summit a distance of 76 miles between helper and provo and the completion of the double track program on tennessee pass gives the railroad double track over all its heavier grades the new and powerful recently purchased permitted a material increase in the size and length of freight trains and has been allotted for additional yard tracks and extensions of passing tracks to car capacity the largest individual item in alie budget involving approximately 1 is for the revision of align ment and grade this work laid out for 1927 covers more than miles of main line track and will this character of improvement floii the royal gorge west to ogden the changes include removal of the track from close proximity to canyon walls and mountain slopes thus reducing danger from slides and consequent delays to traffic the year 1927 will mark the inauguration augu ration of block signals on the denver rio grande western railroad between and miles of the latest and most modern type of electric block signals will be inseal led between hintum and palisade including the canyon of the colorado river dottero dotsero to glenwood springs the installation of block signals in the canyon of the arkansas between canyon city and tennessee pass will follow the completion of the line changes and elimination of curvature curva turf in that section planned for next this initial undertaking is in line with the policy of extending these signals over the entire main line as rapidly as the work can be done economically omi cally for the operation of a locomotive good gatei is essential and in tain districts where the character of the water requires treating will be installed A liberal appropriation has been made for improvements in shop facilities at various points the goshen valley railroad tending from pearl utah pv branch of the on tf denver ao grande western to the 0 arrn mines will kin ba acquired this f road constructed by the iron kin and standard lames not only serves mining the co bitao siler mine in the world but gintic tintic district which is the largest active precious metal mining 01 in utah tern arl ten modern freight locomotives among the largest eair and four new steel dining constructed latest type will be purchased cars of traffic demands during the to meet three years all freight past been rebuilt equipment has at a total cost of proximately so that ap january 1 1927 all of the on will be in first class condition equipment up 10 the standard fully generally tamed by american railroads main 1 j |
