Show MOAB M WINS THIRD IN BIG AIR RACE lieutenant john J williams of moab son of dr and mrs ij W williams won third place in the national air races recently staged at philadelphia lieutenant williams who is an aviator in the army air forces entered in the mitchell trophy aiace riace for planes only out of a field of twelve entrants he won third place and was awarded a valuable gold watch tas a prize with two other top aviators from self redge field michigan lieutenant Williaim js has been stationed at the sesquicentennial exposition at philadelphia all summer making exhibition flights and boang stunts for the entertainment of the visitors at the big fair recently the three young aviators started on a flight from philadelphia to Sel fredge field and in a heavy fog lieutenant plane crashed into a he sustained injuries from which he later died lieutenant williams and his other companion reached the michigan post safely and returned in their planes to search for the missing flyer who in the meantime had crawled to a road where he wag found and taken to a hospital the death of lieutenant betts was a severe blow to his two companions the three being devoted friends |
