Show LATE developments in the OIL FIELDS 60 se tonnage of oil well freight being moved the month ending last saturday was the busiest in the history of the moab garage company from a freight transportation standpoint the which is amov ing 95 per cent of all the oil well materials being shipped to 0 fields haa transported 1800 n tons pounds of freight since july 12 this immense tonnage is equivalent to over forty carloads of freight or a large trainload not only did the moab garage move this quantity of freight but most of it was hauled in excess of brailes over the roughest kinds of roads some of which are little better than cow trails A large portion of the freight was taken to mexican hat miles south of thompsons Thomp sons from bluff to the hat some thirty mr tiles the road traverses deep sand and crosses innumerable canyons al impassable bof cars hundreds of tons of freight were also moved from thompsons Thomp sons to the gibson dome on indian creek over a road which until this spring was never traveled by cars moab garage five ton trucks have lugged cumbersome loads of drilling materials over trails which until a few months ago were followed only by cow ponies the moab garage is operating sixteen large trucks which are kept in motion day and night to meet the requirements of the many oil companies which are starting drilling operations in the moab field each truck has a driver und helper and to keep the big transportation por tation fleet in first class mechanical condition a crew of about eight mechanics is kept busy at the local shops of the company two shifts of mechanics and sometimes three are kept at work in the repair department part ment the coming month bids fair even to surpass the last m volume of freight handled practically no casing has as yet been moved to the many rigs which are now studding spud ding in when it is figured that each well will require about tons of casing and that there are TIC eight or ten new wells now arting operations an idea of vast amount of hauling still be done can be gained new strike at shafer no 1 images big six look interesting bi view of this weeks developments at the frank shafer no A well which brought in a new flow of oil at a depth of feet the big six well on moab anticline takes on a more interesting aspect the big six well is bottomed at 2870 feet which is equivalent to about feet in the frank shafer about forty feet cf black shale had been cut in the bottom of the hole when drilling was suspended three years ago and oilmen are of the opinion that another hundred feet of hole should encounter the horizon that is now productive in the frank shafer the last 1000 feet of hole drilled in the shafer well has correlated nicely with the log of the big six with the exception that the salt beds m the shafer have been thicker this light be due to the fact that the aber well is located on the top of lane creek dome while the big six is situated more on the flank of the moab structure the embar oil company which is operating the big six well under a drilling contract hopes to have the 3 inch casing on bottom within the next ten days good headway has been amadi this week in pulling 2400 feet of pipe from the hole and with the arrival of a casing spear tomorrow the pipe should be extricated without trouble A damaged joint will be taken out and the will again be run with the likelihood that bottom can be reached quickly so that drilling of new hole can proceed manager M of the utah petroleum corporation has completed the erection of the steel standard rig for the frances oil company on the dome south of the san juan river mr corey will have charge of on this well in addition i standard rig test for tho utah ileum on gibson dome both rigs are studding spud ding producing sand which lies at a depth of about feet two wells drilled here a number of years ago ed about thirty barrels of oil daily and the new well will be drilled about yards distant front one of the old bumpers the production will be used for fuel in carrying on drilling operations on the dome and will effect a material caving in drilling costs district superintendent L L bechtel field
