Show PROTECTED FROM WEEVIL the introduction of alfalfa weevil into grand and san juan counties will be prevented if a regulation issued this week by the state board of agriculture is successful in its purpose under the terms of the regulation ula tion it is made unlawful to ship into grand or san juan counties from the other counties of utah and from portions of idaho nevada colorado wyoming california and oregon alfalfa its products other hays of all kinds and straws recently the county commissioners of grand and san juan counties and charles redd represents etive to the legislature from san juan county urged upon the state board of agriculture that the shipment of alfalfa or other hay products into these two counties be prohibited in an effort to check the spread of alfalfa weevil which is already prevalent in emery county to the west and montrose county colo to the east the state board of agriculture was prompt to extend protection to grand and san juan and this week issued the following regulation which is being published in the salt lake papers regulation whereas the introduction of a dangerous insect pest known as the alfalfa weevil pos gyll into the counties of grand and san juan of the state of utah not known to exist in said named counties seems probable under existing conditions now therefore the state board of agriculture of the state of utah under authority vested in it by sections 1896 1897 of chapter 78 session laws of utah 1923 does hereby establish a quarantine against all infested districts viz the other counties of the state of utah all of the state of idaho lying south and southeast of the south boundary of idaho county the counties of delta gunnison Gunni aon and montrose in colorado the counties of washoe storey ormsby pershing lyon and white pine in nevada the counties of sierra plumas and lasen in california the counties of bier ana malteur malheur Mal heur in oregon and tre counties of lincoln uinta sweetwater converse natrona and fromont in the state of wyoming and forbid the transportation or importation directly or indirectly from the said infested districts into grand and san juan counties of utah alfalfa its products except meal under regulation other hays of all kinds and straws whether grown or stored m the infested district date effective january 13 1926 |
