Show D 8 R G W IS FAST SERVICE patrons of the denver rio grande western have noticed with much satisfaction the marked art prove ments in train operations in recent months since the beginning of the year the passenger trains for the entire system have maintained their regular schedules as follows january per cent february per cent march 93 4 per cent the condition of the property has never been as good as jt is today the physical improvements comar fenced in 1921 and have been progressively continuous to date since that year the main line has been so materially strengthened and unproved that the rio grande sow has a substantial and smooth anding roadbed A total of more than was expended on the property from 1921 to 1923 inclusive this year the budget calls for expenditure which will be divided mainly between physical improvements and the purchase of equipment there will also be some improvements in station facilities new shop machinery etc but the major portion of the budget will be expended on making a better railroad considerable work will be done in the canyon of the colorado this year in eliminating curvature reducing grades and making changes in align arient that will avoid danger from slides A new detour line has been constructed in utah to avoid such washouts wa shouts as were experienced last summer an fn the price river district it is confidently believed that there will be no further trouble from high water an that section the rio grande junction line between newcastle and grand junction the roadbed of which in years past caused trouble has been put on a firm foundation with new ba lasting and new rail and it is in fine condition there have recently been purchased for june delivery ten new three calinder cv linder passenger locomotives considerably sider ably larger than the which at the time they were built were the largest passenger locomotives in the world the new engines will have a driver which is four inches greater than that of the 1500 type four lounge observation cars for the panoramic special the rio grandes all pullman daylight train through the are being built the new lounge cars were especially designed for sight seema purposes broad windows unusually high 34 irto vable armchairs in the observation end and a wide observation platform are the special features of these cars there is a restroom rest room for ft omen and a smoking room for men panoramic special passengers will have the free use of these conveniences marked improvements have also been tofile in the narrow gauge territory both in track conditions and in the substitution of new and powerful in place of the smaller narrow gauge power formerly m use twenty of the largest narrow gauge locomotives ever constructed ted have been purchased in the past two years the outlook for business both freight and passenger is very encouraging cou raging |
