Mr. Singer was never a man given to wishful thinking. His methods are those of direct action ac-tion and whether the problem at hand is one concerning his own business or that of a civic nature, na-ture, he attacks it with optimism and a vigorous enthusiasm. Add to this his acknowledged business busi-ness ability and his keen sense of values and it is easily understood under-stood why he is almost invariably invari-ably successful in business or other matters. We feel that it is our duty to call the attention of our readers to these worth while characteristics character-istics of Duff Singer and to pay him a well deserved tribute for his straightforward business methods me-thods and for the unselfish interest in-terest he has shown in public welfare. JOHN L. MORTENSEN Mr. John L. Furthermore he spares no effort in order that his services to the people of Salt Lake City and vicinity shall be commendable. O. C. and A. D. LARSON A city grows and prospers by reason of the public spirited men and women who take an active interest in its development. Salt Lake City has its share of these progressive and civic minded people and two who are deserving deserv-ing of recognition are Messers. O. C. and A. D. Larson, owners and operators of the South East Builders Supply Co. Their business ability plus a thorough knowledge and long experience in the building supply sup-ply business have been major factors in maintaining the South East Builders Supply Co. in a prominent position in the business busi-ness life of the city. They have not only in their business activities activi-ties but also in their attention to civic duty assumed an active part in community affairs. The Larsons have always been ready and willing to contribute JOHN and ARNOLD I SIEVERTS Salt Lake City owes much to those progressive citizens who have taken an active part in the growth and progress of the city and who have helped to make it the business center for this part of the intermountain states area. In mentioning some of these men it is only fair to include John and Arnold Sieverts of the Sunbeam Heating & Electric Co., whose outstanding knowledge of the heating and electric business, backed up by their many years of experience, has brought them to the forefront in their particular particu-lar field. They deserve a great deal of credit for their success in both business and civic activities. Their main interests have always been devoted to the welfare and building up of a greater Salt Lake City. Their younger brother broth-er Albert, is at the present time on a mission to Holland, for the LDS church. The Sieverts are wholly deserving deser-ving of our sincere praise and these few words of commendation commenda-tion are but a just recognition for the many activities they have conducted on behalf of the general gen-eral welfare of the community. We trust John and Arnold Sieverts Siev-erts shall continue to serve Salt Lake City and vicinity. VORIIEES and VELMA PETTY Progressiveness, coupled with ability, always a praiseworthy feature in the passing scene of any community's daily life, is to be duly appreciated. In full realization of this and in recognition recog-nition of the splendid personality personali-ty which gives impetus to the personal success in their case, many residents of Salt Lake City and our own community, regard Vorhees and Velma Petty, owners own-ers and operators of the Trail Cafe, as connoisseurs of good food, and true assets to their city and this district. Mr. and Mrs. Petty are keeping keep-ing their cafe at the forefront at all times both in business and civic activities and have maintained main-tained ' positions of leadership in their field of endeavor. The splendid food and service supplied to the public by Vorhees Vor-hees and Velma Petty and The Trail Cafe, in the past is the best indication of what may be expected ex-pected of them in the future. They have our admiration and best wishes for continued success. MR. and MRS. FRANK V. LINDGREN To be consistent and persist boosters of the home commur often takes courage and pic of optimism. The Snyders are that solid type of citizens whose fairness and friendliness and sincere desire to be of service are accountable for a large measure of their success. As time goes on their personal interests have become more closely interwoven with the business bus-iness and civic affairs of the city. EDWARD R. PHELPS Generally speaking, civic pride is one of those things that goes hand in hand with success, because be-cause a man must have been successful suc-cessful to fully appreciate the advantages that were afforded him by the community in which he lives. His willingness will-ingness to become a cog in the wheels of community progress, whenever united effort is needed to put over some movement or project advanced for the good of his city has always been taken for granted. Mr. Phelps' quiet assumption of responsibility, not only in connection con-nection with his company's affairs, af-fairs, but in regard to other matters mat-ters as well, has very often lent a feeling of confidence to others interested in the same movements. move-ments. In complimenting Ed Phelps upon his leading position in the intermountain area, we do no more than express the admiration admira-tion and respect of his many friends and associates. o J. W. ERNEST TOMLINSON In compiling this review of progressive Salt Lake City business busi-ness people, we have endeavored endeavor-ed to select those citizens who, by the manner in which they have conducted themselves and their businesses, have caused the public to spot in them, certain qualities over and above the average. av-erage. Such a man is Mr. J. W. Ernest Tomlinson, of the Pleating Pleat-ing firm of Tomlinson & Co., who is well known to many of our readers because he has many I friends and customers in hte intermountain in-termountain area. Mr. Tomlinson's main interests have not been solely confined to his own business and private affairs, af-fairs, but have also included his contributions, in one form or another an-other to those projects of a civic nature which come within the scope of his activities. He never neglects these obligations. Ernest Tomlinson is a man of wide experience whose exploits in the business and civic life of Salt Lake City and the intermountain inter-mountain area merit more than passing attention and this writer is privileged to pay this brief tribute to a man who well deserves deserv-es more credit than is accorded him here. O CHARLES R. and C. LAIRD SNELGROVE Messers. Charles R. and C. Laird Snelgrove, the executive heads of the Snelgrove Ice Cream Co., are two of those progressive business men who have always done their bit to maintain the prestige of Salt Lake City as the leading metropolis of this section of the intermountain states area. They have always worked for the development of the city and their many services are worthy of sincere appreciation. The Snelgroves have proven themselves worthy of extended mention and these few words are not really adequate recognition for the many services which they have performed in the promotion promo-tion of public welfare. , Their well-earned success as business men is easily understood, knowing know-ing as the people do their wide-, wide-, spread reputations for the honesty hon-esty which characterizes all ofj their business dealings. One of the men to whom we wish to call the attention of our readers is Mr. Frank Tedesco, owner and operator of the Frank Tedesco Top Shop, a business man who has never spared himself him-self in his aggressive march forward for-ward and one whose competitors respect as much as do all others with whom he comes in contact. His thorough knowledge and long experience in the auto top business is surpassed by no other in the field. Mr. Tedesco is at all times conscious con-scious of his civic responsibilities responsibili-ties and may be depended upon to meet in every detail the many opportuntiies which present themselves to be of service to his city. Mr. Tedesco's record of achievement is one of which he may well be proud.
