| Show I Be Calm I 7 THE TH great coal strike has commenced It It creates the most T complex industrial problem this nation has ever faced and it mi may prove one of the most serio serious s of all strikes z S The rh situation must be met without hysteria Hot angry wor wo woks ls must be curbed Calmness must rule J The The rhe faction involved in the strike that first loses its temper wilf J have ve damaged its case perhaps beyond repair Those who the industrial contest in a manner and with fairness fair fair- ness ness and ness and justice as their motto will win friends for their cause Government action in seeking to tie the hands hand's of the strike l leaders ad rs by causing a court injunction to be issued may antagonize sore some of the union sympathizers but they should not permit the feeling g of antagonism to override their better judgment It must be remembered that the government represents all the people and it is presumed to act in the interests of the people And the government many many m ny times has shown a disposition to tobe tobe tobe be fair with union labor Even at this time when the government seeks to curb the effectiveness of the strike it has likewise tied the hands of the coal coal operators and forbidden them to reap profits bec because use of the threatened shortage of coal coat There may maybe be a few who will shout defiance to the government government government govern govern- ment and to law but they are not representative of union labor There are some reds in the ranks of labor just as as there are danger dangerous dangerous dan dan- ger lUs characters in the ranks of capital but they are a small minority and they should be ignored Fortunately it appears Utah will not be in the strike battle area The miners here have been better treated than has been the case in many other coal fields and they have few complaints But even if the strike does not reach to our doorstep we will feel its affects and it will bring us a new duty as patriotic Americans This duty calls for calmness level headedness squar a ness ness-a a guarantee that no radical can sway us from our our inherent inherent love of justice and loyalty to our nation |
