Show U.S. Public Holidays All State-Proclaimed New Year's Day always has been actively celebrated in the United States, and from Colonial times to the present it has been a day of great significance. The Presidents have received the public at great receptions on that day, and the custom of visiting friends and relatives is one which has survived until the present. In the "gay nineties" this visiting vis-iting back and forth attained a tremendous vogue and the young blades of the city and town looked forward to the event with the keenest keen-est anticipation. Still New Years' Day seems to be growing even more in popularity and the average American feels "lost" unless he has some plans to "go somewhere" and "do something" some-thing" on New Year's Eve. |
