A American nc Red Cross will I be sh shown wn this week when the the Salt Lake County chapter of the American Red Cross opens its annual drive for membership Tile The ro campaign will open Wednesday I November 17 and continue to November 20 I Unlike similar drives of the past the this year will I not be conducted by intensive campaigning but th those se in charge will rely upon the good will of the people toward the Red Cross Robert J J. J Shields chairman of the e executive committee of the II Salt Lake County chapter made announcement to that effect yesterday R Red d Cross booths will be erected in all the hotels and department department depart depart- I ment stores of the city with volunteer workers in attendance Membership for a ye year r will cost 1 I J As the local chapter with offices at Boston building is continuing the work commenced during the war of caring for disabled ed service men and their families thousands of memberships in the county will be needed if the work is to be c carried on Mr 11 Shields announced There are many disabled soldiers of Salt Lake county still in hospitals or in vocational training who must be assisted by the local chapter and much money will be needed if all are to be cared for properly Mr rr Shields also called attention to the fact that the American Red Cross is conducting extensive relief work in Europe and Salt Lake City should contribute a portion Mrs Gertrude Clelland executive secretary of f the l local Red d Cross chapter will conduct the campaign Chairman Shields called attention to the fact that during the war not a single official of the Red Cross received pay for services Clerical workers were the only persons to receive pay This is still true despite rumors Chairman Shields declared We We employ only home folk in our office too Chairman Shields said |
