A Tragic Rendezvous IT IT T SEEMS that a couple of airplane pilots attended a costly party the other evening In Los Angeles Angeles and and as a result 12 persons Including one of the pilots lost their lives and andI the other pilot is under military arrest r I That seems to be the background of the story about the odd midair collision of an army bomber and an American Airlines transport plane near Palm Springs Cal Gal The two pilots agreed at the party the night before to meet in the air over Palm Springs the next day The ferry command pilot at the wheel of the bomber a lieutenant in the army purposely purposely purposely pur pur- delayed his flight according to the official account flying around an air school to kill time so he could meet the airlines plane When he did there was apparently a little cavorting in the air and as a result the midair rendezvous turned into a midair col col- The bomber flew on safely but the airliner crashed out of control and all aboard were killed It was a deplorable occurrence N No doubt proper disciplinary action will be taken but nothing that is done will restore life to the 12 victims of this bit of foolishness A word of congratulation Is in order we think for army air corps authorities who vho promptly admitted the officers officer's responsibility for the accident carried out a thorough investigation investigation in in- and announced that the pilot re responsible rei would face a court
