Show Were We're Still Losing the War WarT T EVERY VERY once in a while we Americans need to have somebody throw a pail of cold coldwater coldwater I water over us We need to be snapped out of our our day dreams of a relatively pleasant war and certain victory and brought face to face with the facts The facts are says Ralph A. A Bard assist- assist c c. c tint nt secretary of the navy that we are losing the war Just like that Mr Bard said it and he didn't qualify that flat statement one iota He went on to to explain that it has often been said that we COULD lose the war but that everyone seems to regard this as just part of the old pep talk And so he prefers to say quite b bluntly not that we could lose the war but that we are losing th the war and he urged us to realize that we damn well mean it It is a fact that we are still losing the war It is a fact that we haven't started to win it any place in the world The best we are doing on any front today is to hold our own and what puny offensive action we have undertaken undertaken undertaken under under- taken to date has actually been for defensive purposes Theres There's another good thought for all ofus of ofus ofus us along this line That is that the day when time was on the side of the allies is gone Actually now time is on the side of our ene ene- mies They have now vast territories under their control rich in hi resources and in man power If we give them the time to develop these resources and to absorb that man pow power power r into their industrial machine an and their war machine they can thumb their noses at us usand usand usand and tell us to come and get them them them-if if we can We cant can't afford to go on losing this war much longer Weve We've got to start hitting g them and driving them back before they can cancon consolidate consolidate consolidate con con- any further their world-wide world con con- quests Were We're still losing and time is working against us us That's what the Russians and the Chinese have been telling us and us-and and they're in ina ina a far better position to know just what the enemy is capable of doing than we are Its It's what we must tell ourselves more convincingly convincingly convincingly than we have in the past We have no notime notime notime time left for talking and planning and pre pre- paring We must act quickly and boldly before before before be be- fore it is too late we must stop losing and start winning before we have lost too much |
