Tomorrow Is Mothers Mother's Day TOMORROW is Mothers Mother's day It is a day day- set apart by common consent as a time for special tribute to mothers It may be that a little too much has been made of Mothers Mother's day as a a day of solemn and rather sepulchral utterances concerning the romantic ideal of motherhood a motherhood motherhood-a a little too much idealism and not enough perhaps Mothers as a group after all take the job of motherhood pretty well in th their ir stride Bringing babies into the world changing their diapers curling their hair guiding their toddling feet sending them off to school building and training and developing them in ina ina ina a thousand ways into good boys and girls and men and women women after after all that's just inthe i ithe in inthe the days day's work for fox mothers They accept it as their privilege privilege cherish cherish the sense of power it gives them as they watch these new personalities being molded by their hands into fine adults They dont don't mil make malce e a fetish of motherhood Its It's not a solemn sacrifice sacrifice sac sac- ac- ac rince to them but bu rather a joy and an in in- They love it If they didn't they wouldn't be real mothers Mothers are pretty practical in to their moth moth- They have to be otherwise be-otherwise otherwise Mary would never get off to school on time Johnny would always have a dirty face and Baby Sue would always be tumbling down stairs And mothers are still pretty practical about it all even after Mary and Johnny and Sue have grown up and gone off to work or to tobe tobe tobe be mothers on their own What they really like on Mothers Mother's da day is a little practical recognition of themselves as mothers Not so much high flown language as warming heart-warming action On Mothers Mother's day they'd like nothing better than a personal display of affection and remembrance re re- re if if possible a visit a special treat of dinner and a show a personally delivered gift or if distance makes direct contact impossible impossible im im- im possible still some personal remembrance of oft t the e day such as a special l letter or telephone call After years of the closest sort of association association association tion with their children it is hard for mothers to see that close contact ended feel that their children are drifting away The finest sort of tribute any mother can receive on Mothers Mother's day is not an editorial eulogy not a pompous radio benison not some ste stereotyped homage J but an intensely personal tribute a tribute a practical demonstration of love and affection and remembrance remembrance re reo from her own son or daughter daughter- YOU Pl i q
