Show Mystery Play Has Wilkes Patrons on Toes Few mystery plays have come to Salt Lake Lake that have made a deeper impression on the the theatregoer than The Last Warning Yarning which was presented by the Cloninger players at the Wilkes theatre last night before a near capa capacity lt audience The play is full of thrills and creeps and arid keeps leeps the audience on Its toes from start start to finish It js Is comparable corn como parable in many ways to The Bat which carried New York away last season The Last Warning gives S Victor GI Gillard ard in the character of Arthur McHugh manager of an English theatre splendid opportunity for his excellent talent and while perhaps he overdoes himself in some places he hEe does his work wel He is ably supported in the heavy parts by May Roberts as Evelyna Hendon an actress in the play The Snare which Mr 11 McHugh McHugh- determines to present against all odds in a theatre theatre theatre the the- atre which has been closed for five years and which has become known as haunted because of the mysterious mys mys- death of John Woodward 1 leading man in his dressing room Victor Jor Jory has rarely appeared to so good advantage as in the character character character char char- acter of Robert Bunce son of the theold theold theold old lady who vho owns the theatre Mr 11 Jor Jory is cast in a rather difficult part but he masters It admirably and rises to true dramatic heights in the last scene where he Is exposed expose ex- ex posed pose I as the principal in the plot to murder l Woodward and to keep the theatre under a cloud Some very charming work Is done by Mary Newton as Dolly while Frankie Frankle Guthiel as Sarah Bunce Bunce owner owmer of the th theatre atre fits well the thel part Josephine Challen as s Gene wins pl in a small part and George Cleveland handles well wen the part of the house bouse electrician ele Mr 11 Cloninger makes an excellent excellent excel excel- lent Richard Qualie stage director and Ray Clifford is magnificent as the English innkeeper The Last Warning is up to the standard of the best that has yet been offered b by the Cloninger company company com corn pany and will be on the boards at atthe atthe atthe I 1 the Wilkes for the balance of the week with matinees oh on Thursday and Saturday p. p It |
