spends a vacation on in Florida with her father and brother brothel David and during a lonely joy ride is captured by some Indians in the Florida everglades Dr Royce a friend of the family rescues her from a matrimonially inclined chief but she che is is restored in a fainting condition to her parent by Freneau who comes upon the scene and claims the honor He wants her for his bride but Stafford will not consent to his daughters daughter's marriage because of her youth and he sends her to college At the end of her schooling the two meet again and Gloria is still infatuated infatuated infatuated in in- in- in I with the fortune hunter who is now on tho the verge vergo of financial ruin rum I and lays his hope in Gloria and md the Stafford millions His suit is blocked I by Stafford Royce and Lois Loic a former sweetheart On a stolen winter sleigh ride with Freneau Gloria contracts pneumonia not however before she has consented to marry Freneau Freneau attempts to borrow from and is refused Lois fearing the loss of Freneau inveigles him into a promise to leave with her for a j secreted nook in the Catskill mountains Her husband keeps watch on her and Freneau gives his partner letters to mail for him in an effort to deceive Gloria into believing he is is taking a business trip Freneau is threatened by Trask a bargeman swearing swearing swearing swear swear- ing revenge for his daughters daughter's betrayal and when the girl visits him she is is thrown into the street Freneau bids Gloria to meet Lois at the trysting monument and on his way is is knocked down under a street lamp by bya a skulking figure frightened away by tho appearance of a man in evening clothes who searches Freneau's clothes and takes a bundle of letters from his pocket Gloria is a witness from her window and recounts her story to Dr Royce and the nurse who search vainly for the body The letters continue continue con con- to arrive from different cities but Gloria is unable to locate Freneau at any of the hotels the letters are mailed from She reads of his death in the papers and swears to find his murderer Stafford now acquainted with the hidden char character of Freneau stops Gloria Glora when when she tries to tell tho police what she knows of the murder Gloria Is nearly distracted but her desire for revenge has not abated During the course of her investigations Gloria half unearths the hidden character of Freneau and the letter conspiracy comes to light In order to determine Lois' Lois part in the life of Freneau Gloria accepts her invitation to visit Davids David's farm At the country house Gloria meets and fearing he will be forced to pay back Freneau's borrowed money to Stafford hurriedly leaves the place placer Gloria traces him to town and from there to Palm Beach where he is is taken with a cramp while bathing and saved by tho the girl only to revive and leave for the North Gloria meets the old Seminole chief who captured her five years before and from him partly learns the real story of her rescue She continues the search for Freneau's murderer On a visit to Judge Freemans Freeman's division of tho the night court she recognizes in an old vagrant the man who killed Freneau The judge lets the man es escape escape es cape intentionally and Gloria pursues and loses the fellow in the slums of the city During the course of the night session is brought into the court on a charge of speeding and is locked in a cell In tho course urse of her chase she enters an east side dance hall and becomes the unwilling partner of a guhman and Dr Royce follows her and saves her from insult A brawl and free for all is the result and tho reserves are called out The two factions are taken to the night court and after listening to to the tale as related by Gloria before Judge Freeman and her father the prisoners are released Iry of offers ers a plausible explanation for the writing of the letters and Gloria Glorias s love is rekindled Her search for
