Show Ore One OO Gift ca Insure Purchase of Elephant for or Salt St Lake Kiddies H I HEN we read the letters sent in to the Elephant Editor by the little kiddies j W WHEN V Y of Salt Lake praying for the success of the plan to raise funds with which to buy a mother elephant for the Salt Lake children to play with in Lib Liberty park we realize how terrible it is to be poor and unable to make others happy when such sucha a small amount of money will really accomplish that purpose The little ones would enjoy an elephant all their own as they would enjoy nothing else and the elephant which THE TELEGRAM has picked out for the kidI kiddies kiddies kid kid- dies of Salt Lake has been used to children and to seeing them swarm around her I little ones she having already mothered three baby elephants She is declared to be beas beas beas as gentle as a lamb lamb and the pres present nt owner assured assur d us that nothing would be more practical than to build a big basket so that the little boys and girls of Salt Lake Sake could ride around the park on the back of Princess Alice When we realize that one subscription would put this elephant fund in ina ina position where there would be no possibility of a failure WE WONDER WHY a SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN SO BLESSED WITH PROSPERITY and pretend pretend pre pre- tend to be so fond of children can remain silent when a few scratches of their I pen would absolutely give assurance to the little ones of this city that their hearts' hearts desire would be gratified l I There are so many people in Salt Lake whose money has come to them with apparent effort and in such enormous sums that they can never in this world nn no even dream im of spending all of f it They cannot cannot even eyen spend their in income ome and yet hesitate and offer nothing while these childish hearts are beating in anxiety and they wondering if so good a dream could ever co come e true true as of f their having a mamma elephant and perhaps some sonic day ay a baby with her in in m their own o playground Princess Alice has lias already brought into the world three infants being eing the only i ever hav having given birth to little ones Salt Lake Lake City August 25 This one was was born last April and was called Little Miracle It is common gossip around roun the tIC circus tent tent that the thc stork will again hobnob Alice some time within 1 the thc next fifteen months Who Vho knows knovs but but- with th Princess Prince s I what yet yet the kiddies of Salt Lake will have their own baby elephant to play with This fhi is not lotan an assurance an e of course but a well established forecast If one rich person in Salt Lake would only announce in THE TELEGRAM tomorrow that he or she would be willing to spend to gladden the hearts of thousands of little children in Salt Lake we feel absolutely certain that the plan will be a success If rich people in ill Salt Lake who can so well afford to do this could only stop to read all alJ the letters that TH THE TELEGRAM is receiving many of them containing a dime taken from a childs child's savings bank we believe that we would receive several checks We Ve hope that it will wilt not be necessary in a city of such prosperity for the children to have to raise this fund with their pennies but if they are forced to do doit doit doit it we believe that the little ones are anxious enough to have an elephant to raise a fund with their pennies and dimes If every citizen in greater Salt Lake would contribute 2 CENTS toward this fund we w would uld have enough to buy the elephant taking in the fund that the city will give THE TELEGRAM has already had a few offers of sums from 25 to toSI SI loo 00 and we are we-are are receiving some smaller sums But the time is short and it is necessary to get some sonic real stimulation for the fund if we expect to be able to deliver deliver deliver de de- de- de liver an answer to Mr owner of the elephant at the time he is in Salt Lake to call calls on THE TELEGRAM editor August 24 The time is short and a decision must be made one way or the other at once THE TELEGRAM MERELY ANNOUNCED THAT IT WOULD SOUND PUBLIC SENTIMENT ON THIS AND VOLUNTEERED A DONATION TO THE FUND SHOULD THE PUBLIC RESPOND THIS PAPER IS LEAVING THE PROPOSITION PROPOSITION PROPOSITION PROP PROP- WITH THE PEOPLE Without any appeal whatever to the
